Information about the Study

Treatment

In the Outcomes of Displaced Distal tibial fractures - Surgery Or Casts in KidS (ODD SOCKS) Study, half the children and young people will have their broken bones treated with surgery, whilst the other half will have a plaster cast with no surgery.

Things to know

The study will help everyone to know what the best treatment is. To make sure people learn about the best treatment, the doctors who help with this study will talk to other doctors, and other people in the NHS who write national guidelines.

Personal details will be held by the research team at the University of Oxford. All information that is collected during the course of the research will be used and stored in accordance with the current data protection legislation.

Mr Nick Peterson

Chief Investigator

Nick is an NHS Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics with a specialist practice in Limb Reconstruction Surgery for children and adults. As CI for the ODD SOCKs trial he hopes to provide definitive evidence for the management of distal tibial growth plate injuries.

Prof Dan Perry

Joint Lead Investigator

Dan is a Research Professor and a consultant in children's orthopaedic surgery. He leads international clinical research in a broad array of conditions & injuries that affect children, and loves to ensure that research is presented in a way that is accessible to everyone.

Louise Spoors

Study Manager

Louise manages a suite of children’s trauma trials at the University of Oxford. She was a nurse for many years and has a real understanding of the challenges of doing clinical trials in hospitals.

Kinzah Abbasi

Study Co-ordinator

Kinzah is a Study Coordinator and has been working in clinical trials for 5 years. She is the study lead for ODD SOCKS and assists with the running of the other children trauma studies at Oxford Trauma and Emergency Care.

Karis Jenkins

Study Administrator

Karis is a study administrator who has previous experience working in an administrative role in paediatrics for the NHS.

Crispin Wright

Study Administrator

Crispin moved from care work into clinical trials and is enthusiastic about contributing to the improvement of healthcare.
